Copenhagen Airport and FedEx to build new terminal
16-07-2008
Companies:
Copenhagen Airports A/S has entered into an alliance with the world's major express freight company FedEx Express to build a freight terminal and office building.
The partnership is to continue until 2023 with an option to extend beyond that date.
The freight terminal, which will be located in the eastern part of the airport's freight section, will measure approximately 1,600 m² and be specially engineered to FedEx Express specifications with access from both air and ground. In addition, an office complex measuring 770 m² will be built for FedEx Express, writes epn.dk.
The contract between Copenhagen Airports A/S and FedEx Express reflects Copenhagen Airports A/S' customer focus, as the development of a specially engineered solution in cooperation with the customer also offers long-term advantages for the airport:
"The new terminal will improve our customer service in and around Copenhagen and will help promote Denmark's growth on the global market," explains David Canavan, managing director of Northern Rim Operations.
Adds Copenhagen Airport A/S' CEO Brian Petersen: "We are very satisfied with the contract with FedEx Express. The agreement will strengthen our position as the primary freight junction in Scandinavia. FedEx Express is a global express freight company and our collaboration will further embed our position as the hub of Scandinavia. It is our ambition to further develop the freight sector in Copenhagen Airport in the next few years. The collaboration with FedEx Express is a first step in that direction."
The new freight terminal and office building are expected to be completed in spring 2009.
